What is Math Pentathlon?
An after school club where you learn fun games that help develop math concepts, good sportsmanship, problem solving skills, self confidence, and much more! It is more about strategy and critical thinking than traditional math problems!
When and where is Math Pentathlon?
The club will meet every Thursday right after school until 4pm. It will begin October 30th and end with an all day tournament in late April/early May. We will also have a trial class open to anyone on October 2nd. Please sign up here if you plan to attend the trial class!

Who can join Math Pentathlon?
Division 1 is for Kinder & 1st graders
Division 2 is for 2nd graders & 3rd graders Division 3 is for 4th graders & 5th graders
Numbers of team members are limited to 10 students per coach/assistant coach. Since coaches and assistant coaches are vital to a successful program, their kids will be guaranteed a spot.
How much is Math Pentathlon?
It is $85/student per year to cover the cost of materials, tournament registration, and a shirt for each Pentathlete to wear. Adult shirts will be available for an additional cost.

At least one parent/guardian must be a PTA member for the student to join. We appreciate your support in making clubs like this possible!
Expectations from Families

One parent or adult will be required to volunteer at least 3 times during the year to help (this can be split between parents, grandparents, etc.)

Parents will have to be an approved LISD volunteer

One parent will be required to be a game monitor at the tournament

Students are more likely to flourish if they play the games at home - games can be borrowed from Winkley or purchased from Math P website
Tournament Info
We highly encourage students to participate in the tournament. The tournament is run by the Math Pentathlon Institute and is held in late April/early May. Locations vary each year but it will be in Austin or the surrounding areas. It has commonly been held at the Delco Center or Rouse High school.
Schools from all over the area participate so please plan to be there all day!
Students will play each of the 5 games one time. Each game is played against a different student from another school. There is one volunteer game monitor watching each pair of students and they also don't know either one of the students, so they are impartial in case any plays are challenged. Tournaments provide a great opportunity to grow your child's capacity, courage, and confidence!

Registration closes on October 15, 2025 @ 4pm sharp
Coach's/assistant coaches kids are guaranteed a spot.
After that, if our registration exceeds our 10 students per 1 coach ratio, we will use a randomized lottery system.
Parents will receive an email by October 20, 2025 with the results of the randomized lottery system. If applicable, the email will also include a payment link to complete registration.
